Hello, I am new to the Corona SDK and application developing in general but I am very interested in learning this new skill. I have ONE main problem over this past week of learning how to develop that I cannot solve. I am trying to make a game which I am acheiving slowly in doing except for one thing, how do I add a image/graphic of my character without a white background always behind every graphic I put? I am currently using Inkscape to design my characters but when I put them into my main.lua and relaunch the simulator they appear… but with a white box behind it. I researched why this is happening and I believe it has to do with the transparency of the image? Can someone PLEASE help me with this frustrating problem so I can continue on putting my bright ideas into applications. Thanks in advance!!!
When you create your images, use a transparent background.
I am not too familiar with InkScape, but I would imagine there is an option to set your background to be transparent either before your start your project or when you go to export your image.
thanks for the reply but i don’t think there is an option when you create or export it or i haven’t found it. I also tried using painting on Windows and it does not have a transparent option either. What program would you recommend for me that has the transparency option, thanks.
AND if anyone knows how to operate Inkscape help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I am using Adobe Illustrator for this type of tasks. I create just a shape I want without a backround, then I go to File > Save for Web & Devices and I choose PNG format from presets, I check that Transparency option is on and that I have a transparent image in preview. I imagine that something like Save or Export PNG from Inkscape is possible and it has an option for transparent background.
You can use Paint.net download it here -> http://www.getpaint.net/
Save them as PNG if you want them transparent
Inkscape recipe:
Select just the shape(s) you want to have visible (not background!)
File > Export Bitmap. Go to Custom Tab and opt for Hide Except Selected
Export
Works for me.
