GambitAds - Cross-Promotion for iOS Games and Apps - Looking for Participants for the Beta Period

Hey guys,

We all want monetization for our games and apps. But one HUGE common problem is that your apps would need to be downloaded by tons of people first for it to generate some effective income. There are multiple ways to get your download numbers up, e.g. putting your app for free for a few days, converting to a free app then doing IAP, etc.

One good way is cross-promotion! I’m quite unhappy with the current solutions out there. So I’ve been developing a very lightweight cross-promotion platform for all the Corona devs. I’m done with the platform API and I’m finishing up on the easy to use Corona plugin.

Here’s how GambitAds would work: every time you show an ad of another app, your own ad for your app will be shown in another. There’s a one to one ratio for this, so everyone who joins will have equal opportunity to be seen! Also, each ad would follow a specific standard so that all of them would display nice and won’t be too obstructive and intrusive. (See attached mockup of the ad at the bottom of the post)

To give you an idea of the amount of eyes and installs one app might get, let’s create a typical scenario from some modest figures. Let’s say for example that 100 games get included in the cross-promotion network. And for a single day, 20 people would be using each of those games. Then, let’s say that in each game, after the end of a round, an ad gets displayed, and let’s say that a single person might typically play 3 rounds in a game per day. So taking all these rough estimates, there would be 100*20*3 = 6,000 ads displayed in a single day throughout the network. So divide this figure by the number of games in the network (100), then that means that your app/ad would get 60 impressions a day; or 1,800 impressions a month.

Now you might say that 60 a day isn’t enough, but if you look at the calculations above, everything depends on 2 factors: the size of the cross-promotion network and the number of active app users. So if our network gets bigger, all our apps and games get exposed better.

So currently, while I’m still finishing things up I’m looking for interested people who’s willing to give this cross promotion network a try (you just need to be a Corona Free/Indie/Pro member for this). I’ll be providing instructions on how to set your app up with the ads, and you can test it on your devices or on the Corona simulator.

The test platform will hopefully be ready in a week or two, then the beta stage will commence. I will be providing this service for FREE while it’s on beta. And for those supporters who helped during this stage, i will be giving them FREE inclusion in the promotion network for a month when the cross-promotion platform launches to the public.

When it launches, I’ll be pricing for a small fee per month or a smaller fee per week for your app to be included in the cross-promotion network. For those not interested anymore afterwards, you can just leave your app as is (it won’t display any ads anymore and the ad lookup won’t have much performance impact), or update them to remove the plugin.

Let me know what you think! I plan to expand this to other platforms to make the network large (e.g. cocos2d)

This is gonna be awesome!

I really like it that this is for trading full screen interstitial ads.  I went ahead and registered for beta testing.

But will you consider upping the promo image size from 100KB limit to 125-150KB?  I’d like to be able to use the app store icon for it (since it’s 300x 300 square), but it came out to 119KB…

Naomi

I changed the limit from 100kb to 200kb  although images would still be automatically modified to have a smaller file size
