Hi guys, sorry total newb question regarding Game Centre and leaderboards.
Do you need your own database or server to host things like leaderboards and track progress of players’ achievements at any stage? Or does the Game Centre handle all this nicely?

Nope, Apple hosts all the online leader boards etc, though, having recently released a game for IOS, which used Game Centre, I would actually recommend taking a serious look at open feint(it has a new name now, can’t quite recall it). Honestly, the less you need to do on Itunes Connect the better, we had a real nightmare with all of our leader boards and achievements on GC.
Also, you should take a good look at facebook integration, it’s not quite the same thing, but it has become the real power in getting your app to sell itself. As I understand it, it’s typically used alongside the leader board api [import]uid: 68278 topic_id: 31271 reply_id: 125031[/import]

Sorry, I haven’t actually tried using Facebook integration, it was more of a: “don’t forget about” but if its example you want, take a look at the code exchange, under ‘community’ there’s bound to be something, I think there’s even a social networking section or something similar. Otherwise, take a look at the sample apps in your corona install directory, there may be something there. If you want an idea of how to make use of Facebook, take a look at a free game on iOS called minno monsters, then try to unlock the chest, if you’re like me you will be excited by the mechanism, I thought it was pretty darn clever anyway. OpenFeint’s replacement, GREE, is not supported by Corona at this time as far as I know. That means there is no option available for leader boards or achievements on Android right now.
