Game installation failure "Not enough space in device storage"

Ok I have to say this is a VERY odd issue.  I wouldn’t think this would have anything to do with my app, but my app was rejected from Samsung with this problem…  I actually also experienced this on my own Android phone (Nexus 4).

Game size:  33.84 MB

Available space on device:  662 MB

Not sure where to go next…

Video of issue can be found here (given to me by Samsung on app rejection):

Hi @clockworked24.7,

On your own phone (since you can test that, while you obviously can’t test the Samsung tester’s device), is your entire base storage full, with an SD card being used to add capacity to that?

Thanks,

Brent

Yea I think my issue might have been an anomaly, since I has lots of photo and video on it, which I later removedl fixing the problem.  The storage info showed that there should have been plenty of space though, which is why I brought it up in conjunction with the problem reported by Samsung.

Anyway… not sure how to proceed with the rejection.  Here’s the defect report for this issue:

===================================

<Defect>
It is impossible to download the application with ‘Unable to download. Not enough memory. Delete some applications’.
* It is the same after Factory reset.
* Application Size : (.33.84.)MB
* Internal phone storage(Available space) : (119)MB
* It is the same after inserting SD card.
* SD card (Available space) : (662) MB

<Procedure>

  1. Try to install Application

<Expected Result>
It should be possible to download the application.

Or please uncheck the device from device list in next submission

Oddly enough, they apparently got it installed, because there are other bugs after that…  I’m guessing its a device related issue.

Here’s the device:

Mid-end Galaxy (LQVGA)

================================

Not to muddle the thread, but I am also concerned about this report:

[Sound Error] ZOOM Key DOES NOT control the volume. (*No volume control option)<Defect>
Unable to control the volume using ZOOM keys.
(*Also, there’s NO volume control option in the application).

※Pre-condition: Application generates sound
<Procedure>

  1. Execute the application
  2. ‘Story Game’ > Press ZOOM Keys while sound is occuring.
  3. Check Volume control option is displayed or not

<Expected Result>
ZOOM keys should control the volume.

There’s no way to catch volume change events in Corona right?  Just app start, exit, suspend and resume, right?

Seems odd they would ding me for that too…  if I’m right, I’ll just tell them that’s a limitation of Corona.  Didn’t stop the previous version of the *same* app from getting accepted, so I find it very very odd.

Thanks for the help Brent!

Did you end up figuring out the issue?  I also just got rejected for the reason you described.  My application is about 32mb.  There is no reason why there should be an issue when there is over 7GB available on the device.

As far as your second question, I couldnt find a real solution to the zoom key thing.  Basically though those are cameras that apps can go on (they sent a video once).  To get around it, just remove the two camera devices from the list when you submit your apk.

We actually decided that Samsung wasn’t worth the trouble and pulled all of our games from their store.  Their approval process caused us so many problems/headaches and the monthly pay-off was so small that we decided not to spend our efforts on worrying about them anymore.  Obviously that’s not the right answer for everyone…
