You should think to do it at 100% or not to do it at all. Doing it for testing or to see if it is worth it was good in 2009 but not now because market is saturated. Get exp, learn, try, make app, fail, learn, make better app, learn more …

This is a good question.

I make games because I love making games for me, my friends and anyone who might want to play it. Money is in there somewhere, but definitely not the first reason why I would make one.

You may want to check out the top games and ask yourself if you can really produce something as spectacular. Be honest. Ask yourself, would *you* pay or play your game. There are thousands of games being released each week (& day) that the game is just one part of the whole mix. You need to push/market your game to a target audience. For example, if you make a dress up doll game, I don’t think you’ll attract too many guys. However, if you mix in some little pony in there, maybe you’ll get some bronies…

Now and again a game does come along that for some unexplainable reason just captures the hearts and attention of the masses even though the production value may not even approach professional level graphics. Those I think are rare and in a few months fade off. That’s another thing, be prepared that your game will be replaced by something newer. Gangnam style this month and next month who knows.

If you have the right game, at the right time (when your target market is most receptive to it) with the right mix of marketing and promotions to drive your numbers, then you’ll make some money. That however is very difficult to achieve.

There is no doubt it’s a crowded market and getting your game discovered is tough. You need to spend just as much time marketing as you did on development.

The right apps do well, others do not. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 32445 reply_id: 129070[/import]
