You can no longer setup new OpenFeint apps. It is completely dead from a new app perspective though existing apps continue to work in the short term and there is no information on how long OF will stay up other than Gree is going to kill it at some point.
Right now there is no official Corona way of providing this service for the Android side of the house. That said, Corona Labs has stated they are looking at options. I’m hoping they will take this opportunity to implement Amazon’s solution as an option. I don’t know if B&N has an SDK for the Nook to support it. Google is rumored to be working on their own, but it’s vaporware at the moment.
Corona Labs is left in a bit of pickle right now since there isn’t a generic service in production that provides leaderboards and achievements for free.
You have a couple of options if you want to take the initiative.
-
Roll Your own using your own web hosting service. Depending on how successful your app becomes you might hit scaling issues. But to get going, a $4 a month hosting account with a MySQL database and PHP support and a little work and you’re in business.
-
Roll your own using a service like Parse. There are libraries to make using Parse easier in the community code and they supposedly scale. If your app becomes successful you will have to up your fees. They give you a million API calls a month for free, but then it jumps to $200 a month for up to 15 million API calls.
-
Use a service like GameMinion. GameMinion is like Parse, but they specifically are targeted for games, supporting Leaderboards, Achievements, Multi-player support, Chat and a few other features. They are in Beta now and it’s free to develop, but once you launch, your $50 a month to use them. I wish they would do a free tier for games. After all, $50 for a game that’s not performing well is a deterrent to using them. If your game is successful, $50 a month is a drop in the bucket.

Hi, actually we do have a Free tier http://gameminion.com/pricing/. We basically provide you with resources to be able to get started and gain traction before spending a dime.
We expect developers will start with this Free tier and move to the next one only when they need to.
Hope this clarifies things.

We know you love games, and we know that love goes deeper than just kicking back on the couch with your friends for a few rounds of Madden or Call of Duty. Maybe you’ve created your own levels, developed your own storylines, or experimented with computer programming.
