GameSalad to Corona conversion?

Hello,

I’m working on a Gamesalad game at the moment, but I’m not sure I’m going to publish it with them. How much work is required to port a GameSalad game over to Corona? I would need to pay a developer to do it. I’m trying to gauge if it’s like recreating the whole game or if things are easier having the Gamesalad elements. Anyone have any thoughts about this? It would be better if you *did not* spend twice the efforts and resources.

if you want to use Corona, then why are you working on GameSalad to make them game and then port it?

It’s like making a program in Javascript and then asking somebody else to port it into another language, work on the version that you want, that way, you will learn something and if you do sub contract it, you will have a better idea of what you want and what the SDK can do for you.

cheers,

Well, the game currently exists in GameSalad and I’m still thinking there MIGHT be a chance I’ll use it 'till the end. I’m trying to decide what to do at this point. If I decide to go ahead and use Corona… I’ll stop the GameSalad production. [import]uid: 87109 topic_id: 17078 reply_id: 64161[/import]

How much work is required depends on the kind of game, the amount of time it has taken you already in GS, etc.

It would mean recreating the whole thing - I wont lie - but when you see the results you’ll be glad you did it.

GS is sometimes overcomplicated, painfully slow and has bad support
But if you already make game on it, why port it to Corona? It gains you nothing, except better overall perfomance
Instead you should learn Corona and Lua programming and make your next game with corona, trust me, you will not be disappointed with Corona
In GS it can took you months to create something that in Corona you can do in matter of days
Personally i think theres no future with GS, i’m not saying its a bad program, but its more for the kids who’d like to make something and dont put any real effort in it [import]uid: 16142 topic_id: 17078 reply_id: 64233[/import]

Yea, at first GameSalad seemed like a great idea that was perfect for an artist like me… but I slowly began to realize that it might not be the best way to launch my game. Performance is HUGE to me and I’m just not confident it can deliver. Corona seems like a better alternative. [import]uid: 87109 topic_id: 17078 reply_id: 64295[/import]

I’ve worked with lots of artists who have made the switch to Corona - I know initially it seems like it’s far too complicated to learn Lua but with a little effort you’ll get it. (Within a few weeks if you apply yourself you will find it just as easy as GS.)

Performance is certainly one of Corona’s (many) strong points
