Gemwars Multiplayer Samples not working or just buggy?

We are developing multi-player functionality in one of our games.

Yesterday I tried to build the both Samples for multi-player “plugins-sample-gameNetwork-google-gemwars-master” for GPGS and “gameNetwork-iOS-turnbased-multiplayer-master” for GC.

The Android version works like 40% of the time. I can invite someone and play with him. Sometimes we can finish a game, sometimes we play 1 turn, sometimes it gets stuck at the first turn. Is this a GPSG problem or is the sample buggy?

The iOS version with GameCenter is even worse. There all I can do is the first turn. After that both players have to kill the App and then the next one, can make his turn. If you don’t kill the app, the screen is just stuck at “Wait for your turn”. Again are these bugs or GC/iOS problems?

How can we develop multi-player games if the Samples don’t even work correctly?

Also why would you implement Real Time mutliplayer for Android and Turn Based  for iOS ? How is this supposes to be “cross platform”?
