General IDE

Hi there all, great to be here.

Im just a little confused, so thought i would ask. Is Lua Glider suitable as a general Lua IDE? What i mean is, i plan to just make basic applications and games in Lua as a hobby and would like to use this as it looks very interesting. Im just not sure if it can be used for what i want or, if there is another purpose behind it such as focusing on a particular area or style of programming.

I apologise if this is confusing but im confused myelf so thought i would try get some clarification :slight_smile:

Thanks for any help with this!

I’m going to move this to the Lua Glider forum.

I’m a fan of Lua Glider all though it has been a bit hard last couple of months. Thankfully the latest update has finally made it great again.

I have only used it for Corona, it also supports other platforms, and probably performs fine in pure Lua programming.

There is a free trial so give it a go.

@Rob,

Thanks for moving this here.

@Jon,

Sounds great. Please clarify how you got the most recent update, did you do it via the auto-updater or by re-downloading?

Hello Gregory,

Is Lua Glider suitable as a general Lua IDE?

Yes. While one of the official plugins is for the Corona SDK you can use it as a general Lua programming IDE.

 if there is another purpose behind it such as focusing on a particular area or style of programming.

You can code however you like. Although there are certain coding styles that fare better in terms of the auto complete but the IDE does not force you to do it any way. The only caveat is that we suggest not writing huge lua files (>6k lines) as this might slow down things considerably.

I re-downloaded and just dragged over the old install (Mac).

@Jon,

Sounds great. Good to know the fix worked for you.
