i want to know the method by which I can get sounds from the system. actually i am making an alarm type application. i want to get the system sounds for sound selection. kindly, guide me.

media.show is used to open the photo library of your device. From there you can select photos to use in your application.
As far as I know, Corona does not yet have a similar command to call system sounds.
While searching, I even found a request made to the Corona team to add this feature in the Corona Library. You can refer to, and vote for the request using the given link.
Considering this request was made a week ago, I doubt that any such functionality has been created yet.
