Getting your Bundle ID and App name correct

Just posted this blog as I found this process a bit confusing, this is the process I used that worked for me to get past the Apple rejection of

“3.4: App names in iTunes Connect and as displayed on a device should be similar, so as not to cause confusion”

Getting Bundle ID Correct

I would appreciate any feedback on this process as I will gladly update my post to be able reference this process better in the future, but after being rejected I documented what I did to ultimately pass the review and that is what is in my blog post.

I was advised to utilize iTunes Connect ASAP so that you reserve your App name for the App store. However the information is slightly daunting first time around.

I’m in the App Information window and Apple wants three items:

  1. App Name
  2. SKU Number
  3. Bundle ID

My search for information about this data lead me to this thread, and I just reviewed the blog post by @croisened. I’m not sure this is clearer now to me. I would assume #1 is what you’re App is actually called - is this not the name that appears in the Apple App Store? I would think this is the name of the App that I’m trying to reserve while I finish up my development…?

#2 refers to a SKU number and as far as I can tell this is up to the individual business to decide how to track inventory. There really is no hard-set-fast rule about what this should be.

#3 is the scary one because it states “Make sure this is the correct Bundle ID for your app. The Bundle ID cannot be changed once it is saved.” So this leaves me feeling like I need to get this right or risk losing my App name I’m trying to reserve.

Is there some service someone provides in walking new developers through this process? Does Corona SDK have a designated area to help new developers with plist info, etc. It feels slightly overwhelming the first time - for those that maybe don’t remember that experience as you’ve done it a few times before. Yikes. Appreciate any feedback.

One last thing, I wanted to say @croisened I really appreciate his effort to document and share his experience in an attempt to allow others to learn from his experience. That is very generous and also appreciated! [import]uid: 74844 topic_id: 12382 reply_id: 46608[/import]
