Google Play 64-bit requirement

@andavidosp, what problem are you having? The 64 bit requirement does not come into effect until August 1, 2019. You can deliver Corona apps today, you will just have to update them again by August.

We are working on this requirement. If for some reason it won’t let you submit your app, look at the left hand column for a triangle. That means there’s something there that’s not complete in your submission.

Rob

I’m already getting emails from Google warning I need to migrate my whole portfolio to the 64 bit version.  Do we have an updated ETA when this is going to be available?  This has a major impact on us and we need time to test and re-release all of our games again.

Maybe Corona Labs should talk with Google to get a postponement, like Unity did.

I also received a warning email from Google.

Since all the apps I have published do not support 64bit, it is written that all apps should be compatible with the 64bit version.

The contents of the first notification e-mail this year are as follows.

https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/01/get-your-apps-ready-for-64-bit.html

The important point is that 64 bit correspondence is essential from 8/1 of this year.

Only applications that use Unity are allowed exceptions up to 2021.

Also, the survey URL was included, so we sent a request for a grace period to our CoronaSDK users.

We also send requests to Google, but I feel that Corona Lab.

Google’s decision has already taken place in 2017, so the grace period is short.

> I’ve got nothing helpful to add; joining the thread to get the updates

same here

Hi Rob, I understand that the team are working hard on this topic, but have an estimated date when you could have the SDK ready to generate 64bit code? Many of us live from this and we have many applications developed with Corona and uploaded to Google Play. This issue is critical for us and we depend on a solution that allows us to migrate and test our apps in time.

Having an idea of a possible date of the release could help us to plan and calm anxiety.

Thank you so much for your support.

But yes, I want a formal announcement and schedule.

In my case, I may be particularly concerned.

Even with the current version, if you are developing on a Mac like me, there is no problem with iOS, but with Android there are problems such as object destruction and detailed behavior differs.

My development method requires more debugging time for Android.

So I may be more worried.

I am disappointed that only the Unity group is exempted  :frowning:

We are working on this at the expense of just about everything else right now. It’s a huge, monstrous task. We are very aware of this looking deadline and that you need time to rebuild your apps before August 1.

I can’t give you any firm date.

When we have sometime firm or tangible news on this we will be announcing it everywhere: the blog, Twitter, Facebook, Slack. You will know when we know.

Rob

Appreciate the effort you guys are putting in. Any news regarding the update? Have been waiting patiently for all this time but with June approaching, I’m a bit worried now. Hope you’ll make it in time and save us all from a potential disaster.

I am concerned too. Given the progress so far, is there a possibility of getting the update released on time ??

Everyone should have gotten an email with a survey from Google already and it is important you fill this out and explain exactly why it is crucial to have more time! Maybe enough of those feedback forms will change something in the end and in case things get tough will bring more time.

I found the link to the survey in the email in the same message from Google:

“[Action required] Create a 64 bit version of your app or you’re doomed…”

Already filled it.

Just found that mail and have submitted the survey, requesting Google for a grace period. Hope they pay some heed to our plea and consider extending the deadline…

We’ve posted an update to the blog. Nothing new to report, but it lets people know about the survey and your ability to see our intermediate steps that we’ve taken.

Please keep conversations here!

Rob

After reading the official announcement, I went out to find the survey link and done! Hopefully, it’ll be ready far before the deadline so other developers can easily migrate.

Rob, I can understand limitations in what information you’re able to provide us at this time and appreciate that the team is doing their best to meet this requirement’s technical challenges before the deadline but I’m curious if there is also a possibility that we might not see 64 bit Android support from Corona until after the deadline expires?

My business relies primarily on distributing games through third-party publishers and we are bound by contracts where we could lose many thousand $ if we are unable to update or deliver new builds that we’ve already committed to.

I doubt we will make any difference as Corona apps are less than 0.5% of apps on Google play this is pointless.

I feel sorry for those in contractual arrangements that may lose out because Corona is so understaffed

Just out of curiosity, Rob is part of the problem really understaffing? And if that’s the case, can money fix it? If we all chipped in a little bit maybe we can raise enough to get this done in time…

Corona has been sold a few times. The current owners - appodeal - clearly not happy decided to cull most of the staff.

This is absolutely an issue of lack of funds otherwise this wouldn’t be such a pressing issue for all of us.

Well the way I see it, we all rely on Corona for our apps to work, and I (and I’m assuming everyone here) don’t want to learn and re-write my apps in a new SDK to get 64-bit compliant, so what can we do to help Corona get us over the line in time (aside from the survey and berating Corona that it’s not ready yet)?
