Google play and home adress

Hi,

I am about to publish my first app on google play but I noticed that my home adress could be seen by everyone… And I find it a bit worrying…

Is there any solution? Is it really compulsory? What did you do?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Pierre

Yeah I think this is required.  I know it costs money, but I’d suggest keeping a PO box as your ‘business address’ and using that.  (Yes, they want a physical address for your, but I’m not doing that…forget about it.  That’s too much of an invasion of my privacy.)

According to Google it will be mandatory to provide a physical address. Developers who don’t provide a physical address could have their apps removed from the Play Store. This is true draconian, almost communistic thinking by Google. As an indie app developer I have no problem with Google having my address. It has my banking information (to send me payments) and knowing my address isn’t an issue, in fact it makes good sense to verify the author of an app. But the moment that information gets published on the Play Store for every Tom, ****, Harry and would-be stalker to find then that is a different matter.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the prices for a PO box and I find it a bit expensive…

Are you using a PO box as your ‘business address’?

Yes.  I work out of an office in my home, but have all business ‘stuff’ sent to a PO box.

If I recall correctly, a box costs me about $300 a year, which is well worth the privacy and separation of ‘domains’.

What cost were you seeing?

I was seeing 300$ per year too. I am a student and I cannot spend that amount, all the more since I am not sure I will have time to develop other apps after this one in the near future.

I will try to find another way.
