Hello,
I’m looking for software I can use to design graphics for my iPhone app. I am looking for an effective, inexpensive tool for PC or Mac.
Thanks,

I use Pixelmator. Available on the Mac app store. 1/20th the cost of Photoshop, and does about 99% of what I’ve ever needed.

hi lococo,
i just bought pixelmator and like it BUT, there is one basic feature I can not figure out and it drives me BANANAS!
Say you open a large image like a screenshot or something like that.
Then you show grid and under preferences, snap to grid, guides and edges is enabled.
HOW do you make a precise selection that snaps to the grid as in 300 x 500 pixels?
I always get 297 x 496 because the first mouse click does not snap to the grid.
This is soo driving me nuts and if you know a workaround for that one … I’ll put you in my will!

Hi Ernst:
I haven’t had that problem, but testing what you’re talking about, I did see the bug where the first click sometimes isn’t snapped. Usually it is, though – at least for me.
To be honest I don’t use the grid/snap feature too often, since the crop and marquee tools both tell you the exact size as you’re dragging, if you have “Show information labels” checked in Preferences/General.
For cropping you could always crop as usual, and if it’s not precise enough, then go to Image > Canvas Size to adjust it to the numbers you want.
Best of luck!
Mike
