Hack-A-Thon Question

Hey I had some questions that I sent in to the hackathon contact like 3 days ago but no ones getting back to me. So I hope some people here may know the answers to these questions.

I wanted to know how we work at the place. Is there computers and tablets all set up there. Or am I supposed to bring my desktop and cintique to the place. If that is the case, I may have to work from home, but I only got a on site ticket.
Also I wondered if we are allowed to start the game before the event, or do we wait until the actual day. If we have to wait until the event how do they make sure people don’t start making the game before the event starts, since they tell us the design 2 days before the event? A team could just make the game and show up to the event with it.

Okay it would be great if anyone knew the answers, thanks for helping if you can. [import]uid: 32524 topic_id: 14145 reply_id: 314145[/import]

I would imagine if you’re not supposed to start working until they say “Go!” on the day of the event, that it will be based on the honor system, because there’s no reasonable way to police that kind of thing. Someone else can cheat if they want – I won’t. And I suspect most people won’t, either.

Since they will tell the themes/guidelines 1-2 days ahead of time I’d imagine that’s the time you can do some planning, just not any coding. If that’s not the case, I’m sure they’ll let us know.

The question I have is, can we enter BOTH the games and apps categories?

But then what about the other question I had about how do we work at places like this.
I never went to an event like this before and I don’t have a laptop, so do they have desktops there and I would just bring my external HDD? [import]uid: 32524 topic_id: 14145 reply_id: 52053[/import]

Hopefully someone “official” will be by soon (but it is the weekend, after all), but I would suspect they intend for you to bring a laptop.

If you don’t have one, now’s the perfect opportunity to “justify” the investment in one, whether to your spouse, accountant, or whomever else watches the purse strings.

Bringing a desktop machine might be feasible, depending on the space. While I know I wouldn’t want to pack my 27" iMac into something like that, I know I’d be a *lot* more productive than on my 15" MBP.

I wont be there so I’m not sure on certain details, however I will make sure you get an answer today from someone who DOES know all the finer details

it is BYOL

bring your own laptop or BYWD bring your own desktop

– you will know the theme of the game and app on Friday but you can’t start until Saturday.

Oh okay, would i be able to work at home and then show up at the end then? All i have is a desktop and no car.
I wasnt sure if i had to register or what. I have 1 on site ticket. Would I have to enter the place, go home and come back? I dont know the rules of the place, so I dont know a workaround so I can participate. [import]uid: 32524 topic_id: 14145 reply_id: 52174[/import]

probably be best if you can participate remote. if you don’t have a car - are you going to rent a zipcar ?

might as well just join remote

Okay, that’s what I’ll do, thanks!

I live in Oakland, so I could take Bart and then walk there, but it would be better to be at home since all my equipment is there. I would just miss out on meeting everyone then.

I have an on site ticket only, do I need a global ticket to work remote?

I was looking for information on remote but I didn’t see any. How will that work? [import]uid: 32524 topic_id: 14145 reply_id: 52184[/import]

will b sending out info on remote later.
