Hello, everyone! My name is Brandon Washington and this is my first time posting here after nearly 2 years of being here at the site!  I would like to show my very first game made with Corona SDK, Raining Carrots!

The game is android only.

(I’ve changed and added stuff since the release of this video)

This project started back in mid-late 2012. This was originally going to be a platform game but at the time, I didn’t know anything about coding (Though, I’m still pretty noobish B) ) and wasn’t ready for anything complex yet so, I took a huge step back and tried to create something very simple, addictive and fun to get more familiar with everything. Then this game came along. The very first thing I did when I started this game was create the level’s music, to get a better visual of the gameplay and the atmosphere. It’s also my first time doing the animations and so on with this game. Overall, this has been a huge learning experience doing coding, designing, aesthetics, artwork, animations, sound effects, voice work, music and optimizing all at the same time! So, I wanted this game to be as good as I can get it and at the same time, learn as much as I can!

I’ve been influenced by video games, companies and musicians, such as, Nintendo, Rareware, Koji Kondo, Grant Kirkhope, David Wise, Timesplitters series, Michael Jackson, Toontown Online (rewritten), Chrono Trigger/Cross, Final Fantasy (X) and a number of others that get credit.

Everything here impacted me during my days as a kid and they’ve taught me good quality. I wanted to try and recreate a similar experiences, I’ve had as a kid, with everyone on mobile!

I’m very close to publishing this game, just trying to work out some things.

Congrats!

Great work, well done

That’s very good for a first program  Kaboom ! with carrots

A couple of suggestions:

The first one is completely trivial. You might want to change your rabbit’s shirt colour, because it does tend to fade into the background a bit when its over the grass bit.

The other one is to do with the controls. It would help the controls in your game if you had some concept of acceleration/deceleration, so that your rabbit moves slowly when you first press the button and more quickly if you keep it pressed.

If you give it a horizontal velocity, and add this to your rabbits horizontal position, and use the controls to change the velocity rather than the position (and have the velocity return towards zero when no button is pressed) it might make the movement a bit more fluid, a bit more realistic and it also means it is easier to make smaller adjustments.

(You may have done this already and it doesn’t show up in the video)

Good luck with publishing ! Go for it.

Hey, thanks everybody!

@paulscottrobson Thanks for the suggestions! I thought about changing his color in the past, when I first created him, but I wasn’t sure what to pick since green seems to fit him best. I’ll see what I can do.

As for the controls, your suggestion is how I pictured the movement would be, when I first started hehe. For this game, I felt it’ll be best for the bunny to move at a consistent pace. I do like the idea actually and I plan on using that in future projects!

Thanks again!

Great job! Watched your video. I agree with the shirt comment, easy fix though.  Now you can celebrate completing your first app!

Thanks Monarcb! I’ve decided to give him a red shirt now.

this is really cool, man. I really hope the final product would be awesome.

Hey thanks, Jonathan!

looks very interesting game, but it doesn’t work on samsung galaxy note 3 N-9005 after hitting the play button all it does show is black screen.

Thanks Hammod, I’ve just uploaded a fixed version.

Out of interest, why didn’t it work on the Note ?

I accidentally left some unneeded code which caused the game to crash.

Congrats!
