Hello & Question About Skewed Perspective (2.5D?) Side-Scroller Games

This is my first post here on the forums. I’m gearing up to try Corona with a few simple projects in the upcoming months- looking forward to it.

One question I have is regarding what, for lack of a better word, I’m calling skewed perspective side-scrolling games. Perhaps 2.5D is the proper term.

Some examples I found on Youtube are “Trine” and “Trials Evolution”.

Basically, I’m talking about a side scrolling game that is viewed from an angle slightly above a strictly flat 2D game.

I’m aware that this style is primarily done in 3D. but I’m curious if Corona could pull off something similar.

Is this mostly a matter of the perspective in which I render my art? If I modeled my level in 3D and exported the graphics at a similar angle, would that work?

I’m a gaming newbie, but I have a lot of experience in graphic and motion design.

Thanks!

Hi Mike and welcome to the community

I’m terrible with art but yes, I do think this would work - I have played Trine quite recently and I think that yes, you could create this kind of effect. You’d just have to create your artwork as it would look when viewed from the right angle as you said. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 27427 reply_id: 111481[/import]
