Help understanding the testing process

Okay I’ve got my game and its about ready for other people to now get it. I’ve installed the game on my son’s iPhone, so the processes to do that involved me

  1. plugging his phone into my Mac and getting his ID#
  2. Going to the developer portal and adding his device.
  3. Editing the provisioning profile and downloading the new one.
  4. Plug his phone back into my Mac and using Xcode, load the provisioning profile (the first time I didn’t do this step and got a certificate error) which did NOT show up in the list of provision profiles. Then drag the app to the Xcode organizer and it installed correctly.

But if I wanted to give it to someone without Xcode and such, I don’t want to have to have them install extra software like the iPhone configuration utility and it seems like trying to get someone to install provisioning profiles seems excessive.

So if I want to install it on a friend’s device that I don’t have access to physically, what are the steps involved?

What do I need to bundle up and send them to get it installed? (Oh its an Ad Hoc profile)

Also in a related question, can you upload the app to iTunes and then have a select set of Beta Testers who can get the app for free?

Thanks

If you look in the Beta Testing forum you’ll see many of us have taken a liking to TestFlightApp for doing ad hoc testing. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 8757 reply_id: 31944[/import]

I’m trying to digest the test flight stuff.

I’m wanting to share it with a limited number of friends right now and I’m looking for the best way to deploy to them.

Thanks
Rob
