I have been playing around with Blender for a few weeks and I am getting pretty good with it. I was looking for a guide or some info as far as incorporating it into Corona. Can anyone point me to a good site or post that will elaborate on incorporating the 3d animations? [import]uid: 110526 topic_id: 28790 reply_id: 328790[/import]
I’m actually decently experienced at Blender you can see my blog @ http://blendercentral.blogspot.com/ that I haven’t updated in months if you want. Could you be more specific? Do you want to figure out how to render animations? Excuse the unprofessional writing on my part on my blog, I’m a high school student:) [import]uid: 164950 topic_id: 28790 reply_id: 115977[/import]
Surely the only way to use 3D visuals like this is to export the sequence as PNGS and display rendered 2D sprites - ala Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, etc…
You’re not going to be able to import 3D animation data into Corona - you’ll need to check out something like Unity for that. [import]uid: 33275 topic_id: 28790 reply_id: 115998[/import]
SegaBoy is spot on - if using Corona you’d go the sprite route, else if you are looking for true 3D you’d want to check out Unity. (We’re strictly 2D.) [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 28790 reply_id: 116050[/import]
Actually Blender includes a game engine of its own, so you can create games directly on Blender. See here for example:

Highly impressive!

Ya you would have to render out image sequences in Blender if you were to use them in Corona. A nice part of the rendering engine in Blender(the old one, not Cycles) is that in materials you can chose your shader and one of the options is “toon” so you could make potentially cartoon looking renderings. @intoitgames - Thanks for the quick response and info but Sega nailed it. BTW I checked your site out, nice work.
@Segaboy & Peach - That’s pretty much what I was expecting to hear, I just wasn’t sure. I’m not looking to go full 3d yet. I am just looking for different approach to designing and thought this had potential(besides it’s free and pretty fun to play around with once you figure it out).
@jfb - I did see that but I’m not gonna attempt to mess with that yet, I am still enjoying Corona and learning what it has to offer. [import]uid: 110526 topic_id: 28790 reply_id: 116123[/import]
So far, I have used Blender 2.63 to create some animation and port it to my android game developed in Corona. I rendered the animation to .png files that I use in a movie clip object in Corona. You could also make sprite sheets for the same purpose.

@jadkins4 Thanks for the input! I tried that process but the pictures weren’t coming out the way I had envisioned/rendered them. It seems like I lost some resolution or something. I’m sure it was something I did wrong along the way as I haven’t had time to play around with it lately, so for now I’ll stick to GIMP/Inkscape-type programs.
