Here's a killer idea for Corona!

Hi there,

I just had a great idea for Corona - well, in my opinion that is. I just realized that the forum could have an awesome feature that could set Corona apart from its competitors, and might draw in a lot of new users.

That idea is the ability to run and show Corona-code INSIDE forum posts! Can you imagine how cool it would be if you could have tutorials and forum posts online where people could post a bit of code, and have a small window next to it showing the Corona code running? Like some code for jump/gravity physics, for example.

I know many apps use touch, and desktop browser rarely have that, but I’m sure it could already be super useful with just mouseclicks inside these windows. I know Flash used to be able to do this, of course, and it was really amazing to go through tutorials on how to build platform games, with everything happening right before your eyes.

What do you think, CoronaLabs?

Last time I asked Corona for html5 version, it was on halted, but your idea is great. Mine was to put your code on a website so people could see your work and test it before they buy it or download it, or simple to check your portfolio.

you can vote here, but if you read the comments of the admin, i would not make any hopes on this.

We are likely going to get back to HTML5 in the near future and at that point, we could considered looking at this, though I think it would be a much more complex implementation to put into place. First our forum software would need to support it. Secondly how and were are images going to be stored?

This would be a separate request from the HTML5 option, so please visit http://feedback.coronalabs.com and start a topic for this (if there isn’t one already)

Hi Rob,

No need to start a topic, as far as I’m concerned. The big benefit here would be to CoronaLabs in my opinion, not to me personally, so I don’t feel the need to pursue this. However, I do think this could be a big, big point of superiority over other 2D frameworks, as far as learning and knowledge sharing goes.

As far as images go, you are right of course: either you would need a strict file size limit, or even only allowing code-generated displayObjects to be used, or some online images to be used, or you would need to charge for premium forum membership. Or, and that’s probably the best option - you would limit this to tutorials.

I know it’s not a big priority, and I’m not in dire need, but I do think it could be a major tool for CoronaLabs - my gut feeling says that the learning curve is probably the biggest factor in choosing a framework, and showing not only code but direct visual examples inside the forum (no need to download or build) could be a great tool to drastically reduce the learning curve.
