Hi, I'm Paul

Hi Everyone,

While I’m new to Corona, I’m not new to software and games development. I’ve been in the industry since the mid '80’s believe it or not, starting at a small UK 8bit games company called Incentive Software back in the day. I’ve worked through various related industries over my career, but always held a passion for gaming. Most recently I’ve decided to tinker with the idea of developing my own games as an indie developer, mainly for the fun of it, but who knows where it will lead.

As part of this journey I recently developed a fun, frantic version of the classic match 3 genre, called Fruit Spritzer, initially for the web, delivered through Facebook, you can see it and play it here if you’re interested, https://apps.facebook.com/fruitspritzer, and the Facebook page is here https://www.facebook.com/fruitspritzer. It was always my plan to test out delivery on mobile platforms too, but initially I had no idea quite how I was going to do it, perhaps using the same codebase through Cordova/Phonegap. However, after much experimentation, I seem to have settled on Corona. The decision fuelled largely by the fact that I managed to port the majority of the code to Lua/Corona in about 2 days. I’m have been highly impressed by just how easy it is to learn and become productive in Corona (and this from someone who used to work for Marmalade :D).

I look forward to continuing my journey with Corona, every evening I get to tinker is a new and fun experience, so far I’ve not felt left wanting by the system at all. I hope to have the first mobile version ready for delivery by the end of the month.

Cheers

Pail,

Welcome.  I took a look at your game on Facebook, and it looks very good. Well designed.  I think you will pick up Corona quick!

Best of luck.

Bob

Hi Paul

Thanks for the game link, I gave it a try.  Let me know if you want some feedback.   I have been playing candy crush and others lately purely for “research” of course.

Hi, definitely happy to get any feedback, the game is evolving at the moment, and I’m happy to take feedback from anyone playing it, and use it to ensure it evolves in the right direction.

Current plans include, badges/achievements, weekly challenges, ranking, and more bonus/powerup types.

Cheers

All sounds great.  When I played it, it didn’t show me the goal I was supposed to achieve.  So when I failed I had no idea why.

Hi Paul, did you work in the development of “Total Eclipse”, “Driller” or “Castle Master”?. Great titles from Incentive!

It was incredible playing immersive 3D games in the ZX-Spectrum.

Welcome and happy coding!

Erich.

Good point. In reality, the only goal is to score as much as possible in the 60 seconds available, so you didn’t fail, you can’t

However, it’s a very good point, a splash screen with a simple explanation of the aim would be good, noted and added to the list, thanks.

Paul

Hi,

Yes, I worked at Incentive when we produced those titles, I did some work on the 8 bits and 16 bit Freescape titles. My main first project that I would call my own was the 3D Construction Kit, 1 and 2. Good times!

Hi Paul
Fantastic I am looking for a coder in lua to update my app on the App Store

Any recommendations at All
