How critical is Facebook and Twitter to increased sales?

Getting close to finishing my app. How critical to sales is connecting it to Twitter and Facebook? I don’t have either set up for my other apps, but this is my first game app. I will set up a separate Twitter and FB account if the consensus here is that FB and Twitter make a big difference in sales.

TIA

It didn’t help me… but of course my app is for toddlers so even if they manage to touch the facebook button they can’t sign in. Unless the user is already signed in, but I’m not really sure how does this work.

i think the facebook and twitter should be use to “promote” the app - and engage users socially. i don’t think that it increases sales unless you post scores or keep tabs on a facebook page or similar.

but i would encourage you to create a twitter account and facebook fan page so your users can comment, and follow you so that when you announce a new level, or show some new screens, or an upcoming update, your users will know ahead of time.

twitter/facebook are sort of engagement platforms and the more venues to engage your players, the more they will engage with you and provide you with the feedback from a different venue than a “support@xyz.com” email exchange

I forgot to ask about including a link to Openfient. Is linking with them a good practice on some level if you produce a game?

Thanks!

Hey Jerry

When you say a link to OpenFeint, do you mean using OpenFeint in your game? If so, I’d say yes - it could just be luck but in my experience apps with OF/GC do seem to sell more.

I think Facebook can be useful, both in the ways Carlos discussed above and when users can post scores or milestones to their wall - I don’t think it makes a huge difference and it really does depend on the kind of app but in some of mine I believe it has helped.

PS - I see mail from you, I’ll get back to you this evening. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 15478 reply_id: 57240[/import]

It probably depends a lot on the kind of game you have. So why not just try it? You can easily integrate all three (Facebook, Twitter and OpenFeint) in one day. [import]uid: 52103 topic_id: 15478 reply_id: 57567[/import]
