How to Create/Generate Music

I’m fairly new to using corona. I’m looking to add some simple background music to my app, but i’m worried about licensing issues occurring if get the music from a third party. I wanted to know if there’s a way for me to make my own music file or if there’s any widget in lua for me to use to generate the music.

Eric Matyas has a great library of his compositions you can use for free but you MUST credit him in your app or pay a license fee.

Hi daniel043x,

Try https://www.bfxr.net

You have full rights to all sounds made with bfxr, and are free to use them for any purposes, commercial or otherwise.

Have a nice day:)

You can also go to https://marketplace.coronalabs.com and purchase some very inexpensive packs that exist so you don’t have to worry about licensing since you’ve purchased a license to it.

Yes definitely, the corona marketplace its where my best app music has come from!

For background music, I would also recommend looking into https://incompetech.com/. The licenses are simple and easy to understand.

If you aren’t familiar with creating music then I would definitely recommend looking into what everyone has suggested. Trying to create your own music when you aren’t proficient in it will usually take much longer than planned and the results may be much poorer than hoped for.

In my opinion, it is better to leverage the skills and knowledge of others in fields that you lack knowledge in and spend your own time working on what you do best.

Thanks everyone, I’ll look into these sites. Just out of curiosity though, is it possible to use garage band to create music for corona?

Yes you can use Garage Band. As long as you’re producing a file that’s compatible with Corona and the final platform you’re going to build for, you should be good to go.

Formats that are widely compatible:  .wav, .mp3

Formats that are a bit more specific: .aif, .ogg, etc.

Rob

Of course, you can make music in anything as long it ends up in a format like mp3 or others supported by Corona.
