There are multiple ways to do this. Several people have written easy-too-use modules to make this easy, including yours-truly (https://coronalabs.com/blog/2014/10/14/tutorial-saving-and-loading-lua-tables-with-json/).
But we just introduced a new feature that lets you save and get preferences. You will need a later daily build (I recommend 2949 or later) to use them, but it’s cross platform and easy to use. See our announcement from a couple of days ago.
