How to spawn obstacles or enemy?

Hello everyone,

I have read some of the tutorial for spawning enemies or obstacles. Just like this link below:

but it’s since 2011, is it still current? is there different (more updated) codes that i can learn from?

I suspect that tutorial is still valid.  I didn’t see any G2.0 features in it with a quick glance.
