HTC Desire - is this suitable for Android testing?

I need to get an android phone for testing purposes only and I have seen HTC Desire phones for a reasonable price. I have no idea about android phones so would appreciate any help. I don’t want to spend a lot as I have already bought an iPad and iPod for testing IOS versions of my games.

If there are other better android phones for testing for similar costs then please let me know.

Here is spec of one I have seen.

HTC Desire LOCKED TO O2, with 2gb microSD card and official USB/wall charger.

Currently running android 2.2, but I’ll have to reset to factory settings before I send.

A top smartphone, 5MP camera, bright 3.7inch high res AMOLED screen (480x800), full internet browser, 3G, bluetooth, wifi, music/video player, android market with 100,000+ apps, full google integration (bookmarks, contacts, gmail, calendar). Hi,

I use a Nexus 1 which is essentially the same phone. Its arm7 so is supported with the latest corona so it should be fine. If you’re not in a big hurry you might want to wait for the new set of phones to come out with honeycomb. Eg the new Galaxy has just been released. Honeycomb is only for tablets. You won’t ever see it on a phone. But its successor will be a fusion between the honeycomb and regular android branch. [import]uid: 51516 topic_id: 9714 reply_id: 35405[/import]

Thanks for the replies.

I was very impatient and bought one on Ebay as I am keen to test my game on an actual device asap. I hope it works as well as it does in the Simulator as it worked perfectly apart from some strips of missing graphics due the different screen sizes.

It seems like it can be very expensive developing for the mobile and tablet platforms as it requires buying a load of different test devices. Guess it will be worth it when I make that next killer app or game:) [import]uid: 7863 topic_id: 9714 reply_id: 35406[/import]

Ahh yeah you’re right about honeycomb. I really should stay up to speed with this stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

RE developing on tablets etc, the simulator is good enough to test for things like bleed areas. Then you can ask users on #android or in forums to test of various devices.

I was able to fix droid, galaxy S and Xoom honeycomb issues for walkabout by doing that, [import]uid: 8872 topic_id: 9714 reply_id: 35408[/import]

Phew! I didn’t fancy buying any more devices for a while until I test the waters in the Android market. [import]uid: 7863 topic_id: 9714 reply_id: 35410[/import]
