HTTP on Android devices

Hello,

I submitted a support request 5 days ago without any feedback from ansca. This ignorance would be a show stopper alone (working with ansca frameworks for commercial games) but I really like the idea of corona and the framework. I’ll post my question here in the forum where others can benefit from answers (or no answers as well). This was my support request:

My issue is: working with a sample project
when I try to: run on device
I’m using: Corona SDK on MacOSX
Corona build number: 268
Device and OS version: HTC Desire, Android 2.2
Steps to reproduce:

Hi,

we consider to use your excellent framework to create a multiplayer game
which communicates over http with our servers. Many things look really
promising but we stumbled upon some questions regarding networking support
on android devices.

Is there any support for async http(s) requests on android devices? A first
check with your sample apps did not work. Afterwards we checked the
SimpleImageDownload - just built it for android devices and tested this on a
HTC Desire with Android 2.2. Tapping the button nothing happens!

We could not find answers in the forum, just some hints, that, for networking
and http and android, corona would not be a good choice.

We would really like to develop our multiplayer games on corona, but need
professional advice whether networking is reliably supported for android
devices.

Thank you for your short statement and clarification. [import]uid: 42023 topic_id: 7536 reply_id: 307536[/import]

I also really need an answer on when android will get async https request support. I’m already deep into coding a cross platform app with Corona SDK. Things were going well until I hit this missing support.

Currently I am using Corona in trial mode. The lack of async http support and also In-App Billing for android is really annoying.

Don’t know if ansca will add those features in the near future but if not then the corona SDK Subscription Pricing should be changed.
