I am currently doing my best to make a decent Icon for my next game (Art Ball) and I was wondering if I could get some other developers options on my designs and which one to use.

Just a couple of notes. The sunbeam pattern is way over used in icons today and you want yours to stand out.

Secondly what does a racing flag have to do with “Art Ball”?

Third, while I like having the text in the 512x512 (though I think it could be styled better than just black text) because it helps me know the title, when its shrunk down to the 57x57 variant the text may be hard to read and it is definitely redundant with the name of the app underneath it.

All that said, I’d think #2 is probably the best. #4 gets rid of the sunburst, but it’s left too plain.

I agree with Rob here, 2nd option was my pick too as two elements are of good size in proportion to the size of the icon.
Additionally, if you want, you can keep the text in 512x512px icon, and then take out the text in smaller icon versions that go to the device. The big icons and the small icons do not need to be exactly the same, as long as it’s obvious that they are part of the same branding. Use big icon to add text if you want, and also more details compared to the small image.

I assume both images are work in progress, and if you are uncomfortable about making your own drawings, I would advise looking for some clip art that you can use.

Finally, I wanted to add that both the ball and the chequered flag are elements that are being too over-used on AppStore, and if you want your icon to stand out, maybe you would try to see if there are some other two elements that can relate to your game and still being a bit more original.
