IDE ?

Just getting started with Corona.  I don’t mind a simple text editor like Sublime once I’m more comfortable with a new language/framework, but an IDE with some decent auto suggestions, etc… is nice when just getting started.

I’m just wondering what people suggest as being the best and most well supported IDE out there?

A couple of things to note.

  1. Needs to run on Mac OSX since that is my primary platform.  I want something that integrates with Corona, but would prefer it also works well with other Lua projects as I will likely do some non Corona based Lua programming as well.

  2. I am willing to pay if it’s actually good and worth the money; preferably in this case there is a trial version so I can try before I buy.

  3. Right now I’m using Outlaw Lite; I haven’t purchased the pro version as it doesn’t seem all that great, plus I’m not sure if it’s being actively maintained.

On #3 Outlaw is actively being maintained – another update will hit in 30-45 days. But if you don’t like the lite version, don’t buy the full version. The only difference is no ad and the ability to have more projects going.

Jay,

Thanks; not trying to be down on your IDE man.  Just would really like something more full featured, even if it means more $$.

Also just wanted to say though; I bought your Mastering Corona SDK, all tutorials bundle, and think it’s really great for someone new to Corona like myself.

Sublime has suggestions for Corona api’s. Look for “corona editor” on this site and install it (there are instructions on the page).

Corona editor is a sublime package that gives you auto complete and a debugger, amongst a few other things

No problem, Joe. Outlaw has fewer features than some because I personally don’t like “all that and the kitchen sink, too” tools. But I know I’m probably in the minority.

Thanks for the comments on the tutorials – I’ve got more of those up my sleeves.

 Jay

I would be in that minority with you

I use LuaGlider and like it a lot. The developers are always releasing updates to it.  I tool from LuaGlider that I like a lot is the “Ultimote” which allows you to simulate the device sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope,…)
