I'm an "Approved" nook developer -- now just need the tools!

I got an email from B&N yesterday approving me as a nook developer – I went out and purchased a Nook to play with and it’s actually a (suprisingly) nice device. I don’t know if they make any money at $250 but I really kind of like it (it’s no ipad but it’s also a lot cheaper and the form factor is nice)

Anyway I tried to install a corona app unto it using adb and (not suprisingly) it didn’t work – I know Carlos had indicated that they needed to push some changes out first.

I signed up for the corona early access program So… I’ll wait patiently until I can get a version of Corona that works with nook

I have a Galaxy S, Nook Color and XOOM. I look forward to putting Corona through it’s paces seeing how well it scales up from 4" (Gingerbread 2.3.3) to 7" (Froyo 2.2) to 10" (Honeycomb 3.0). [import]uid: 41892 topic_id: 9634 reply_id: 35109[/import]

yes - we know - we are working on getting this publicly available

and we do have your emails - we just need to answer and we have had issues with our mail server provider

loghound- How difficult was it for you to get approved as a nook developer by B&N? I noticed that they appear to require a website/comparny, previous mobile experience, etc. I am an ex-developer that wants to get into Nook development and selling, but i have no specific mobile experience. I just want to start creating interactive ebooks for the nook.

Thanks in advance.

I wish I had a US tax number :stuck_out_tongue: Lets hope they open it up to international developers soon :stuck_out_tongue: [import]uid: 8872 topic_id: 9634 reply_id: 35510[/import]

@paisausa It wasn’t difficult, I filled out the form and a few days later I was in. Having said that I think I was pretty easy because I met all of the requirements (already published on ios & android & desktop, dedicated support site, US account number etc.)

Yes I too have some concerns about this. I have seen a quite a few people complain about B&Ns stiff requirements for indie developers. Out of curiosity, Carlos, do you know if you guys will have any extra pull to get your subscribers approved for Nook development?

I for one was actually very excited when you guys announced the addition to Nookcolor, I will be very disappointed if their rules keep our community from developing for their device.

Thanks

Rob.

@loghound BTW: what is one of your apps on the App Store, if you don’t mind sharing. Thx [import]uid: 16527 topic_id: 9634 reply_id: 35582[/import]

All

I wouldn’t call them stiff requirements as much as B&N has an image and its a high-scale brand. Keep in mind two things. One - they are new to the app ingestion process so they are learning a lot via the process. I know the guys running the ingestion process and they have a ton of experience so they want apply all they have learned and get it right. It was just a few weeks ago when they opened up the app store and ingestion process. They are still learning a lot about the B&N NOOK user.

The other thing to keep in mind is that B&N as a company, has an image and brand to protect. So it makes perfect sense for them to be a bit reluctant in accepting any app submitted because they want high quality apps, not another fart app. All 400 variations fo them.

The biggest weight you can carry with B&N is having apps in other app markets. Ergo, why Corona is a good fit for them and for you, If you have an existing app on iTunes or Android market place, the faster the process.

Nook >= Indie Android?

Will support for the Nook Color be considered a third platform (in that there will be a fee for deployment builds), or will it be part of the Indie Android bundle?

it will be a separate corona sdk

the current indie android will not work for distribution on nooks.
