In-app approach versus Lite to Full version

Hey guys, I’ve read in the forum about Apple rejecting apps that submit Lite Versions of their app because they instead want us to release the app as free but with an in-app purchase to unlock the app. I guess this is supposed to minimize the clutter of Lite vs. Full versions in the App Store.

There are 2 problems though with releasing apps with in-app purchases. First, you can’t give away promo codes because promo codes don’t work on in-app purchases. Second, your app doesn’t qualify for Apple’s Volume Purchasing Program, so educational apps like mine can’t be purchased in bulk.

So my question to you guys is, has anyone successfully released a Lite and Full version of their app within the last couple of months? I’m thinking of moving away from the in-app purchase model and instead going with a Lite and Full version, but I’m afraid if I do that Apple will reject us based on their new stricter guidelines. Anyone with some advice?

I did Lite and Full just a few days ago.

Full: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/math-to-the-rescue/id557466405?ls=1&mt=8

Apple does not automatically reject lite versions. What they don’t like is non-functional parts of the game that nag you about full version when touched. [import]uid: 160496 topic_id: 31355 reply_id: 125342[/import]

Thanks Mike for your input! Looks like Apple has no problem with Lite versions then. I’m going to go ahead with Lite versions instead of in-app purchases. Some review sites even dock you for having in-app purchases. Looks like Lite versions are the way to go. [import]uid: 82194 topic_id: 31355 reply_id: 125408[/import]
