Indoor location

I’d like to make an in-house company app to help navigate around our building and find people, rooms etc.

Can anyone think how indoor WiFi could be used to locate a user from the device alone?

My best idea so far is to have the Corona app call a hosted web service and have the server identify where they are by using tracert to discover which WiFi devices they are communicating through.

Worth mentioning “Indoor Survey” was released by Apple a month or two ago. It’s only available to businesses at the moment, but it’ll be integrated into Apple Maps data eventually. It uses wifi signals and a human operator to place pinpoints within a building.
