iOS 10 sticker packs with apps

Hi,

We’re looking at doing an iOS sticker app that is bundled with our regular app (that’s built in Corona).

If the sticker app is standalone I know what to do (just treat it like a new app), but how do I create what apple call a “Sticker pack extension” for a Corona app?

The way I read it you would include the sticker pack in to your Xcode project and that’s all. But since Corona SDK doesn’t use Xcode to build your apps, it’s not going to work with Corona SDK. Since Corona Enterprise uses Xcode to build projects, you could include stickers with Enterprise builds.

As far as iMessage apps go… you have to include a framework which is going to be an Enterprise project. But given that Corona’s side of an Enterprise app is in OpenGL, I doubt that the iMessage framework side is, therefore I don’t know how practical that’s going to be…

I ended up just creating a separate sticker app in xcode. I plan to bundle with my main app.

Are you able to set it up so that the sticker automatically install when they install the app? (Like Crossy Road currently does?

Nope, but I figure if they download he bundle it will do that. Question is whether you can bundle a “normal” app and a sticker app.

Turns out the bundling thing doesn’t work (well, not for me).

App price = tier 1

Stickers = free

If I bundle them, Apple enforce a price that is less than the price of the included apps in total.

In my case - it needs to be free if it’s in a bundle!

Not sure if it’s even possible to do this with Enterprise.

I think the correct way to that is to create a new app and bundle it with your older one.

Can’t make a bundle unless the price of the bundle is less than the combined prices of the apps - i.e. I would need to make it free.

Only way I can think of doing it is to charge for the stickers, then make them free with my app. Not ideal.

All that Rob said is on point…  Sticker packs can be added as an extension via Xcode (only Corona Enterprise).

Our iMessage game “Checkmate!” is built native in Swift - didn’t really seem feasible via Corona.  You can get it though here - http://playcheckmate.com :slight_smile:

Hello! I just wanted to confirm that as of yesterday we successfully used Corona Enterprise to bundle a sticker pack to our Corona built app and upload it to iTunes Connect using Xcode. Although it’s not officially on the store yet, it looks like its going to work.

Note: This app was previously created in standard Corona (not Enterprise.) If you want to make a sticker app extension for your entire catalog of apps and are willing to upgrade to Enterprise. It’s doable!

I will try to update here again when the app + sticker pack is actually approved and live on the App Store. :slight_smile:

You’ll have to submit your Corona app and attach a sticker pack using Xcode-which you’ll need Corona Enterprise to do. There’s no other way to do it. If you have Enterprise and your app builds successfully in Xcode, let me know and I will try my best to give instructions on how to attach a sticker pack.

Thanks for the reply. I think I’ve done all of that already. When I build the app onto my phone (through Xcode), there’s no stickers available in my iMessage. Am I missing something?

Ok, yes, you have to add the sticker pack to your app project before testing or submitting. I will get instructions and share them asap. :slight_smile:
