Is there voice recognition API in iOS SDK? Didn’t see it but this one:
http://www.ispeech.org/developers/iphone
looks like easy to implementation in CoronaSDK. [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59212[/import]
Thanks for the link gtatarkin.
We just wanted to get in there early. 9to5mac have outlined strong evidence of Apple’s intent to deeply integrate voice recognition into iOS 5. The in-built voice recognition demo’d today looks pretty fantastic and it would be awesome to access that raw native power via Corona SDK. [import]uid: 21125 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59216[/import]
But as I know Siri is not a part of iOS SDK. It’s not even Apple technology. Siri was created as part of DARPA project and Apple buy it about year ago for 200 milions USD. [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59217[/import]
Yes, but starting in the new GM seed, Siri is incorporated into iOS 5. [import]uid: 63320 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59250[/import]
I had a feeling there would be a few threads like this today [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59276[/import]
But it’s NOT a part iOS SDK. It’s a separate and independent program like YouTube player, markets or weather forecast in your current iPhone [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59286[/import]
BTW. Best joke about Siri:
“Siri, where can I hide this body?” -> “I have found 10 locations sorted by rating”
after several minutes:
“Wow, my siri tweet was RT’d over 30 times within a few minutes. Tons of people must have bodies to hide.”

Once IOS 5 is officially released we can take feature requests for the new IOS features. [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59500[/import]
ispeech gives you free and quite good api Siri will be closed cuz it’s dedicated for iP4S. [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59522[/import]
“Siri will be closed cuz it’s dedicated for iP4S.” - gtatarkin
Why closed? Siri will be part of iOS 5, not just iPhone 4s. It is cited by Apple as running on iPhone 4 and the 3Gs: http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/compare-iphones/
[import]uid: 21125 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59533[/import]
No, Siri’s an iPhone 4S-only feature. I imagine there’s some processing on-board (although I believe they said the dictation processing is off-loaded, but what do I know? hehe), and you’ll need the A5 chip for that kind of power.
…and I haven’t seen any APIs in the documentation to suggest there’s OS-wide voice recognition or anything, but I’ve only glanced. [import]uid: 21712 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59558[/import]
Hah, funny. Apple have removed the tech spec info listing the 4 and 3Gs as ‘Siri ready’ that was found here: http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/compare-iphones/ [import]uid: 21125 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59562[/import]
WOW…thats crap!
Would love to have the Siri next 14th october.
I am not going to buy the 4S for the new changes over the iP4 btw. Surely waiting to buy the iP5. I just hope that even missing Steve they can make something as good as him had done as well. :\

As you see it’s iP4S feature only. It’s not even Apple technology. Siri was in AppStore a year ago as standalone application (you can find video on youtube) before Apple buy this company for 200 MLN USD.
AND there is no any magic behind the scenes - Siri WAS working on iP3GS an iP4 but Apple wittingly support iP4S only.
iP4S have great hardware but people waiting for iP5 with larger screen and LTE support. So it’s looks like Siri become killer feature for iP4S because lack of 4" screen [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 59585[/import]
So … there’s no voice recognition API currently for any device that Ansca Corona SDK offers? [import]uid: 48718 topic_id: 15976 reply_id: 100596[/import]
No, however our new system (see blog from Tuesday) will allow the community to effectively vote for what they most want and we will then try to prioritize based on that, which will help with requests such as this one and gauging need.
