iPad/ iPhone simulator for Windows Edition

I’m using Windows as my main development computer, but am creating games for the iPad, so currently I got the Mac and Win machines hooked up via USB to see the Corona simulator window. Carrying around and setting up two laptops is suboptimal but the new Corona Windows edition could come in very handy – so my feature request is this: please let me also pick “iPad” (and perhaps “iPhone”) from the Windows -> View As menu.

This way I could use the Windows machine for working and editing and graphics creation. And if perhaps Corona Windows edition can’t compile rightaway for iOS (not sure?), I could still hook up the Mac for compilation needs. All I would need right now is a bigger simulator window in the Windows Edition for 1024x768…

Thanks and keep it up! [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 305533[/import]

+1 or maybe, just let us choose the resolution of the device emulated. [import]uid: 10426 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 18765[/import]

+1 also. But it would not just be the skin/resolution but also access to the same features as iPhone. Otherwise certain functions will receive a not supported on Android Warning.

Not having iPhone builds is fine - would be nice if we could just simulate. [import]uid: 11393 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 18858[/import]

+1 as well. As of right now the Windows simulator is not that useful to me because of this. [import]uid: 10835 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 18862[/import]

+10 Specifying the resolution would be tops. The windows version was very exciting to me until I discovered that it was locked to the android resolution. (Is even the standard android resolution nowadays?) [import]uid: 12589 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 18975[/import]

At least for the iphone you can use the MyTouch skin. It has the same res. [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 18976[/import]

+1 for this too! I want to develop on Windows as I can then use the excellent FREE Notepad++ editor.

The MyTouch may well be the same res but it’s TINY on my screen.

Ansca, could we please have iDevices add to the Windows version?

Pretty please. [import]uid: 9371 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 19516[/import]

Dweezil,

If you have a MacBook or other apple system to run the simulator on, you can use Notepad ++ to do your coding on windows. Then launch the simulator on the Mac…store your files on a server and every time you hit save in Notepad++ the simulator will automatically relaunch the app. I am sorry if this was already an obvious process to everyone, just thought I would mention it.

Although it would be cool if they can make the simulator run on Windows. [import]uid: 16527 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 21115[/import]

That’s a good idea. Ta. [import]uid: 9371 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 21122[/import]

+1 I develop for iOS on windows too, it’s nice to have all of my tools on the same computer.

+1 to this as well. [import]uid: 42145 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 26933[/import]

The MyTouch may well be the same res but it’s TINY on my screen.

um, that means an iPhone resolution option will also be tiny on your screen because, well, they are the same resolution. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 27279[/import]

Dweezil - I just found this out, but it might be helpful for you: You can zoom in on the simulator, so everything is twice as large so it’s easier to see. It’s in the menu items for the simulator. [import]uid: 42145 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 28243[/import]

we just added this as a bug internally … don’t jump and get too excited… it will be addressed but there are other higher priority bugs that need fixing before this one.

Just wanted to add my two cents. This is a HUGE issue for me as well. I’m currently using VNC to view my Mac through Windows but it’s sketchy and often loses the connection. I much prefer doing my editing and viewing in Windows until I need to build. Also - I am working on an iPad app with an artist who doesn’t have a Mac. It would be HUGELY beneficial for him to be able to see and iterate on the build on the correct device in the simulator.

Isn’t it possible to just copy a few config files over to Windows? Better yet - why can’t we just specify the device resolution in a config file? How do you guys plan to deal with the huge numbers of varying resolution devices for Android?

Seem to have inadvertently duplicated this message … ignore this one.

I’ve downloaded the latest stable release and was hoping it was already in, alas, guess I will have to be more patient yet! Downloading the daily build now and hold my fingers pressed… would really help my daily coding to be able to develop on Windows. [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 5533 reply_id: 34928[/import]

still have to wait - other high priorities are in the way.
