iPad retina graphics -- wow

So I’m working on getting Omniblaster (http://bit.ly/omniblaster) upgraded to 1.8 and I’ve decided that for the Lite version I would with hold my @4x graphics to incent upgrades.

So I’m playing both version on my new iPad and frankly I didn’t see a difference. My first thought was my @4x graphics were not being used, so I made a tweak to one of my @4x graphics (the @4x ones are not in the lite project at all so I know its not using them) and sure enough… it’s working. I showed it to my son and he said there was a slight difference between the two.

I took screen shots of both and looking at them at 100% on my MacBook pro, you can obviously see a difference but on the device its:
**WOW**

Apple did a fantastic job upresing our graphics. I’m not 100% sure we actually need to be doing @4x graphics.

Interesting observation – I’m still waiting for my iPad 3 so I haven’t had first hand experience with testing stuff like that, but I was in the local Mac store not too long ago where they have a 2 set up right next to 3 – and I could NOT tell which was which until I looked at text in iBooks.

From a graphics standpoint (photos and such) I didn’t see the need for a new iPad. Good to know that’s the case with games, too. (At least in your test.)
