iPad simulator real size

I feel a little silly asking this…

But I’m creating an iPad app and I would like to have the simulator be the actual size of a real iPad. Since I don’t have an iPad I want the simulator to show me the true size of my graphics are so I can make sure touching and dragging won’t be an issue.

If I zoom in with the simulator, the iPad is bigger than it really is and if I zoom out, it’s too small.

Anyway to make the iPad simulator the real iPad size?

Thanks! [import]uid: 25787 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 305939[/import]

You can switch the simulated device to ipad in the menu? Did you totally miss that option? [import]uid: 8872 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20377[/import]

I do have the simulator set to the iPad, but it’s not the size of a real iPad. If you toggle between zoom in and zoom out from the Window menu, the simulated iPad shows up as 4.5"H x 5.75"W (zoom out) and 9.5"H x 11.5" W (Zoom In). An actual ipad is 9.5"H x 7.5"W. Any ideas or am I just being wonky? [import]uid: 25787 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20378[/import]

That is impossible. Take an IMAC 21" and an IMAC 27". Both run at 1920x1280 resolution. See… the same graphic is smaller on the 21" one.
Good thing would be if they let you choose the zoom level. [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20383[/import]

Oh i see, same physical size in cms/inches. Thats quite dificult to do unless u know the pixel density of the PC your using. I guess you could ansca to add a pixel density option which u could insert, but its not a feature most need.

Why do u need the exact size? Are u making some sort of ‘ruler’ or measuring app? In which case get a real ipad to test, or make some test code with a fixed length line in x/y directions, and ask someone to measure it on their ipad, and then multiply/divide what u see on the screen.

OR put a ruler graphic next to the simulator which you’ve scaled to the right adjusted size. Then use that to check the centimeters/inches of objects on the screen. [import]uid: 8872 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20405[/import]

That makes sense! Thanks for taking the time to point this out. I’ll make a suggestion about being able to choose the zoom level. [import]uid: 25787 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20411[/import]

The reason I’m looking for this option is because I’m a newbie at developing and don’t have a good feel for how big a touchable object needs to be for the average size finger using an iPad. I know apple says 44px x 44px, but that’s really big for the app I’m looking to build. So I wanted to play around with the object size through the simulator and act like I’m touching the screen on my Mac.

I definitely need an iPad…iPad 2 can’t get be released soon enough! [import]uid: 25787 topic_id: 5939 reply_id: 20415[/import]
