I’ve never tested on an older iPhone than 3GS but out of interest, are you building your own app or a sample app? How intense is it?

How are you measuring things? If you have nothing going on in your app, how can you tell if the framerate is low? Corona tries not to do anything when idle…that can mess up certain kinds of frame counters.
Did you play audio and then pause/stop it in your app, or did you never call any audio to begin with?
Did you try the latest daily builds?

I found same issue.
On iPhone 3G(or iPod Touch 2nd generation), touch event slowdown everything.

Yeah, I’m seeing this too on my 3G. I posted about it here, but no responses yet.
In addition to seeing this issue on my own game, I’ve noticed it on Pixel Slice and Float. Those are the only two Corona-made apps I checked.
