iPhone and Android apps now required to have privacy policies

Forgive me if this is not the best place to post this. I couldn’t decide the best place for it.

I read an article this morning stating a California law that Apple and Google have signed onto regarding privacy policies.

Here is a link to that article: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2012/02/iphone-and-android-apps-now-required-to-have-privacy-policies.ars

Here is a snippet from that article:

Harris noted that a Wall Street Journal report last year found “that 45 of the top 101 apps did not provide privacy policies either inside the application or on the application developer’s website,” despite the fact that most of the mobile apps were transmitting a phone’s unique device ID or location “to other companies without users’ awareness or consent.”

I bring this up for two reasons. First to let others know this change is coming. How Apple and Google will enforce it is unknown at this point. Second to ask Ansca if they will provide specifics of what exactly is being tracked and sent behind the scenes; for example with lauchpad, so we can better construct a privacy policy that is accurate.

We are working with our legal team to see what is needed (if anything) and understanding what this really means.

As soon as we know something, we will let you all know.
