Is a website required?

Hey all, I’m just about ready to release my app and was wondering if I need a website to enter my app into the showcase. The “requirements” state that the “Made With Corona” badge should link back to the corona website. It’s gonna be kinda hard to have a badge on your website if you don’t HAVE a website!!! lol {

Much appreciated,

whats a problem with making a website? you can make a blog or have a free template website or cheap hosting(my hosting costs me 4 bucks a month) [import]uid: 16142 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65522[/import]

If your app is great then you don’t need a website.

If your app is… urm, OK then a link back to Corona won’t hurt…

If you’re building for iOS, Apple is going to ask for two websites when you set the app up in iTunes connect. A required support URL and an optional app URL. So technically you don’t have to have a site for your game, but you have to have a site where players can get in touch with you for support.

I don’t know what requirements are in place for the Android markets.

Is it required for the showcase? No.

Okay, great, Thanks everybody! [import]uid: 66117 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65547[/import]

To clarify you can show your app in the showcase without a website, however if you want to be eligible for App of the Month or App of the Week then you do need a website showing your app with the “Made With Corona SDK” badge.

Like Rob said though, you will need a website for Apple anyway.

This does not have to be anything fancy - it could be a free wordpress site if you need something free+easy.

Oooohhhh… OK… Thanks Peach! I guess that will be my next project…

Like Peach said, go to http://wordpress.com and create a free site there.

Another option is to check out: http://iapphost.com/corona.html

There is a monthly fee with them, but its really a pretty straight forward tool.

Another option if you have the funds is to hire a web developer to build your site for you, or help you setup your own hosting and site. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65652[/import]

Thanks for the links, Rob. I’ll have to check those out.

Much appreciated,

This likely wont be an issue but realised it is worth saying just in case; don’t build anything using iWeb. It seems it is being phased out. (No longer buyable on the store, etc.) [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65733[/import]

Thanks Peach, I’ll keep that in mind. Would you (or anyone) know of a program that is cheep and easy to use so I could us to make a “real” website? Even though I will probably start out on wordpress or iapphost, if one were to go big, he would want his own website. [import]uid: 66117 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65803[/import]

Wordpress.

Rather than using a free blog on their site, if you wish you can install it on your own domain and modify how it looks a LOT. (Lots of professional sites use Wordpress.)

The free blogs lack options but for example, Techority is a Wordpress site; http://Techority.com/

But so is this; http://icondock.com/ (random site pulled from Google search)

Thanks Peach, I’ll check it out.

I 2nd what Peach said. All most all of my sites are wordpress based. Its a good tool for building websites.

Keep in mind:

http://wordpress. com – Their free site for bloggers.

http://wordpress. org – Their resource for the self hosted version, developer’s docs, plugins, theme’s etc.

Though if you decide to go with a self hosted platform, you will need a hosting company. I highly recommend http://hostgator.com

Any way, almost all of these hosting companies have a “Control Panel” for their sites where you can manage the various aspects of the hosting account, like setting up email accounts, mySQL databases, etc. One of the common features is quick install’s of various open sourced packages like Wordpress. The takeaway here is that you can pretty much get setup without ever going to Wordpress.org. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 17326 reply_id: 65955[/import]

Wow! I hadn’t seen wordpress.ORG! Looks very impressive. I think I’ll go with that, considering NYTime, PEOPLE, and PlayStation use it!

Much, much appreciated,

If you need help installing wordpress or understanding hosting there are people around the forum that can likely help there too, so keep that in mind if you get overwhelmed. (Don’t know how much web experience you have.)
