I think with some creativity and patience you could do non-game apps in Corona. The biggest problem is that for some UI things like TextFields you have to test on a device or the playform SDK’s simulator (Xcode or android) which means you have to make your changes, save and build for device which is slow process.
I’m pretty new and other than the native.text* items and a buttons and the list shown in the video I haven’t seen a lot of other controls.
I wish that it was easier to do regular apps with Corona. It’s such an easy language and SDK to use.

I agree completely. I’ve been working on some simple social networking style apps in Corona and every time I get excited and think I have a break-through, I find yet another limitation. Inability to animate newTextField objects, inability to have multiline newTextField objects, the sheer difficulty of establishing a breadcrumb structure that is logical, and so on. This demo video is nice, but notice how the app doesn’t actually *do* anything
Don’t get me wrong, I think Corona is fantastic, but I’m on the verge of giving up on this kind of app unless some desperately fundamentals are added to the SDK. [import]uid: 40611 topic_id: 7703 reply_id: 27830[/import]
I agree as well. games are great and enjoyable to develop but sometimes the job requirements are for apps that manage data, social networking, etc. Would love to see some actual real-world examples out other of Corona-based apps that are in this genre.
