Is Corona Cloud aimed at only game devs or is business app crowd welcome?

Slightly rhetorical question… I want to use the Corona Cloud for at least push notifications in a business app setting but feel a little peeved that the thinking behind it is heavily leaning towards games and games only. Options to see your apps is called Games… Even the option to add an app to the Cloud is called… New Game!

Is a non-game developer welcome on the Corona Cloud? In other words, can we expect some business related focus along the way as well?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hi @ksan.  We appreciate your question.  Yes, non-game developers are welcome.  Push, Chat and News all have non-game uses.  Obviously Leaderboards, achievements and leaderboards are game centric.  I’ve not seen the roadmap, but I’ve heard plans for other non-game services, I just don’t have any details.

While our interface does use game terms, If I were building this for a business client, I would build a custom branded web interface.  Our API is REST based, so you could build a business app and give them their own web forms to produce the push messages, news updates, etc.  They would not need to log in to the portal.

I think you brought up some good points, so I’ll let the team know about this post, so they can think about ways to perhaps be more oriented towards business usage.

Hi Rob,

Thank you very much for taking my slightly tongue-in-cheek post seriously and taking the time to reply. I appreciate the willingness to receive feedback at CoronaLabs. Wonderful!!! As you mentioned push, chat and news perhaps is the most useful aspects of the cloud for now but Analytics possibly can be very useful as well. I will need to study the capabilities and see how best to utilize them.

Regarding a self branded web portal for push messages etc… that sounds terrific. It would be great if there was a sample php code for this which we could take and run with.

I look forward to growing my knowledge and doing wonderful things with Corona as it continues to mature as well.

Regards,

Kerem

I would use it if there was a table with information that I could administrate via backend and receive this data in the app.
