Is there a better alternative to Ponytiled?

I’m trying to get a Tiled map into my corona game and I’m using Ponytile to render it, but all I can seem to muster up is a black screen. I have looked in ponywolf’s sticker knight and cannot reproduce whats their.

I dont quite understand why tiled is not exporting properly and ponytile doesn’t want to render it.

Is there a better alternative to ponytiled?

You can also look up MTE (Million Tile Engine) and Dusk Engine and there are probably a few others out there. But if Ponytiled isn’t working, it’s likely an issue between how tiled manages internal vs external image sets. One way works, one doesn’t. Tiled changed their engine to use external by default (I think).

Look into that

Hi,

I’m developing my own version Tiled Loader for Corona based on ponytiled project from M. Wilson from Ponywolf. You can use embedded and external tilesets. Check out:)

First off, are you using object layers, or tile layers?Once I switched to only Object layers I had no problem.

Before that I had issues with black screens etc.

Edit: Oh, and as Rob indicated, make sure you choose ‘Embed Tiles in Map’ when you create it.

How do I do this embedding option? I figured out the object thing pretty quick thank you, it is something that should be brought up I can see a lot of people getting stuck just with the layer types.

Thanks ldurniat ill have a gander if i don’t get this working.

Embedding the tiles to the map did not work, for json and lua

Have you tried un-updating Tiled? Try to go back to earlier versions, I’ve heard this has worked for some people.

Tried 0.18 nothing changed

Can you send me your map in json format in pm message?

May be go and watch youtube tutorial for Tiled by M. Wilson.

Do you see errors in console?

No errors loads the file just get a black screen, I have tried to follow that youtube video many times. JSON FILE INBOUND

Hey. I should probably chime in here. ponyTiled was created when Tiled had a much simpler way of organizing tilesets and sets by default were embedded in the JSON export. Here’s what’s keeping me from updating ponyTiled for 100% compatibility with 1.0

  1. External tilesets are stored in XML, and Lua <-> XML integration is a pain

  2. Many things that tiled supports (vectors, text, etc.) have been coming out faster than I have time to implement

  3. ponyTiled is just ONE WAY of many to load images out of Tiled export, and it may not suit every use case

I hope that helps. I can verify that ponyTiled does work with any Tiled version as long as you use embedded tilesets, but there’s plenty of fish in the sea when it comes to rendering maps.

Alright, well thanks for clearing it up ill give it another wack in the morning maybe downgrading didn’t work properly.

Unfortunately none of it works I have tried everything, im using tiled 0.18.1454 it loads the map fine but im still left with a black screen.

Can you give me some alternatives for tiled please with a cherry on top?

It’s getting to the point where I just dont want to make a game.

Depends on scale mode and x,y coordinates of your map on the screen it is possible that your map is rendered outside visible part of the screen. That is why you see only black screen.  Do you try render others maps from Tiled in Corona?

Do you read my pm messages?

I did and tried what you said it didnt work, I have set the x,y coord of the map to 0 and even + 300 to get different results still a black screen no matter what.

Worked it out, all to do with the tile set you are using, I was using a 70x70 tileset and as Idurniat said its all to do with the sizing. Thank you all for your help definitely getting credited into my game
