This last week I’ve been working on a game called Roly-Polies that’s kind of like Cut the Rope meets Bubble Ball meets Angry Birds.
The core routines are done and I’ve created the level editor to run on the iPad so I (and my kids) can create levels whenever/wherever we like. And making the levels and playing “what would happen if I did this…” turned out to be so much fun that I’ve decided to include the level editor in the game as a “playground” for people to mess with.
The game will ship with 30 levels and I’ll be doing an update 3 weeks after launch with another 30 levels.
I’ll planning on posting pictures and gameplay video by the end of this next week (I want to wait until closer to the game being finished) but below is a sneak peek. I know you can’t see much, that’s by design. It’s the score screen in the editor after playtesting one of the levels.
It will probably be tweaked a bit, but below is the main menu screen for Roly-Polies. I may go to a “regular” logo instead of the printed title, but still pondering that.

PS - Yes, I’ll keep “leaking” screens every day or so until it’s ready to launch!
Hi Jay, I have a level editor too but I have a problem when I try to test a custom level becouse the code generated is lua and cant be converted to Objective-C. Lua is only for development time.
With my level editor I’m not generating code, I’m only generating the coordinates of objects used in each level and saving those values to a database. Then I just grab that database from the iPad (using the Download button in the Xcode Organizer) and I have my data all ready to use.

I should be posting a game play video by late tomorrow afternoon (Alaska time). I’m hoping to get some feedback on whether it’s going to be too hard for people to play (as well as a couple other issues).
I’m also going to be looking for some people to help play test the game. If you’re already on TestFlight and like the looks of the game after seeing the video, let me know!
It’s less than 2 minutes and shows the first few levels (with built-in hints) and then a quick look at the editor (which will, in one form or another, be included in the game).
Still a couple placeholder art things and the scoring isn’t complete, but it’s getting pretty close – as long as I can get the levels done.
It’s easy to make simple levels, and it’s easy to make complicated levels (such as Level 9 that you see in the editor). But medium levels? Those aren’t so easy to make.

Just got off Skype – interviewed by Carter Dotson, host of the Portable Gamer podcast, about Roly-Polies HD. I’ll be part of episode 100 which will be released next Tuesday.
