just starting out... on winXP with crashes

hi!

(I should update this old laptop’s microsoft to win7, but can’t just yet.)

meanwhile the latest Corona simulator (CoronaSDK-2016.2949.msi) is crashing , aparently by triggering the Data Execution Prevention.

my previous version, CoronaSDK-2016.2830.msi , was still working fine. although a few sample projects made it crash just the same (e.g. SnapshotEraser and FilterGraphDemo), maybe because of decrepit GPU (?).

my specs are:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home [Version 5.1.2600]
  • NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 (=> OpenGL  2.1.2 capable)
  • 2560 MB DDR2
  • Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5500 @ 1.66GHz

You might want to try and update your drivers. When you say 2949 is crashing can you be more specific? On start up? After loading a project? While running hello world?

2949 - crashes at startup of simulator

2830 - crashes with projects SnapshotEraser and FilterGraphDemo so far

just checked the drivers pages.

but nothing new since 2009.

so I guess… “technically”… uhm… I’m considered up to date?.. erm. :frowning:

I’ve reinstalled the 2830 build.

later today I will run through all the sample projects.

so we have a complete record of the suspects.

Do you know what Service Pack level you have installed? Windows XP has come out with several “Service Packs” which are pretty big updates to the OS. I believe you need at least Service Pack 3 and the latest Internet Explorer installed.  

Let me know what version you have installed. You might try updating to the latest IE too:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24488

If not, you may need to look at updating to Windows 7.

EDIT: Also you might want to uninstall Corona and re-download it making sure it comes from our site too and re-install it.
