Just starting out with Corona need some advice

Hi everyone, I hope I am posting in the right category but I want this in the subscribers only section. After careful review of Corona and some competitions, I have decided to devote my time to Corona. With that said, I am new to game development and Lua language all together. What I want to know is if you veterans have a system you start with when developing a new app/game.

Should I start out with the base templates Corona SDK offers me in the Simulator? With all the Director posts and many people are using Director, I would like to know the benefit of using the included Storyboard API and if it’s ready for prime time. I am starting my game project next week and if you have any advice so that it will make my life easier, please share :). Advice such as how to approach the design/development process, what works for you , what doesn’t. Anyways, I am happy to be a part of this community.

Regards,

I’d suggest using Director and trying it out first and getting the hang of it.
Try doing some simple demo work with changing screens using transitions, etc and adding new Images to the group.
I prefer to use Director still at this stage but if Storyboard gets better I might switch some day.
Welcome to the world of Corona!

Hi And Welcome,

I would advice Director to begin with I like it better then Storyboard (IMHO) depending on type of app you are building then there might be some templates or sample codes out there give you a head start. Not sure how much programming you know since you even went on and became a pro developer so I wont suggest tutorials but ill post a link to a useful website, I wish you the best.

@Walouk Thanks for the welcome and I will look at the latest director Class

@LeivaGames It looks like you guys are liking Director Class better for now, that’s why I thought I’d ask to be sure haha. Actually I singed up for the forum back in 2010. I downloaded the sdk but never had the time to learn it. Just came back on the forum about a month ago and this time I am making time to do this. I signed up for the pro account to make sure I push myself to get this done otherwise I might drag it out and plus I need to make a quick ebook (none game related) for all platforms in the coming weeks. I had made an app using objective-c in 2009 and I DO NOT want to go that route again lol (painful).

@jstrahan Thanks for that, I saw the learningcorona.com before and learnt a lot from it :). I think I’m going to use Storyboard API to knock out a simple ebook first then I’ll dive into game making!

Have a good one guys, I’ll see you around the board
