Keyboard capture

I write tools and games for people with disabilities. My clients need a special device called a switch to operate their iPhone/iPad/computer/etc. These devices emulate keystrokes (example, the 1 key) of the keyboard. There are devices that work with iOS systems over bluetooth so, is Corona able to capture these keystrokes outside of a form element?

This is an important question that I would like an answer to and try in the Demo before I choose to purchase the fill license.

I’ve completed a search of the forum and I didn’t find an answer. Unless I hear differently I am going to assume this capability is not available. Unfortunately I will continue my search for a solution in other products.

I would like to know, also, because I purchased the iCade and would like to use CoronaSDK to make games for it. – Need WASD controls, etc.

FYI, iCade is basically an arcade cabinet with controls hooked up to bluetooth keyboard. [import]uid: 41353 topic_id: 10240 reply_id: 44371[/import]

Hey guys,

No, at this time there’s no support for that.

PS - The iCade sounds awesome. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 10240 reply_id: 44568[/import]

Another game use for keyboard capture/input could be Typing Games (general or vocab).

Will support for keyboard capture/input be part of the August update or is it way down the road (if at all)? I would like to know what to plan for my class this fall. [import]uid: 41353 topic_id: 10240 reply_id: 45229[/import]

skeinath, the keyboard support mentioned above is about testing a game on the simulator using an ACTUAL keyboard.

I’m not sure if you were also referring to this or not; I’ve half made a spelling game myself without the use of input from a real keyboard, so it’s certainly easy enough to do  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 10240 reply_id: 45415[/import]
