Kindle Fire submission on Amazon?

I have read that people have been submitting their apps to Amazon and that Amazon reviews apps first for the general Android store, then separately for Kindle Fire compatibility.

I want to upload DIFFERENT builds. One for generic Android devices, and one specifically for the Kindle (to deal with their 20px menu bar).

As far as I can tell this is not supported in the developer uploads. How have other people dealt with this? Are people just submitting a single app for ALL android devices including the Kindle Fire? [import]uid: 16734 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 319759[/import]

I’m just submitting it for all Android devices. [import]uid: 29181 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 76542[/import]

As far as I know, it’s not possible to upload separate binaries.

I guess it’s either all or nothing.
On a side note I’m wondering if they send an additional mail when the app is approved for the Kindle Fire. The reason I’m wondering is that I got an email from Amazon stating that my latest app was approved. However in that email they mentioned that the Kindle Fire approval would be separate, but I haven’t gotten any further emails from them after that. Ok, that is what I was afraid of. I will have to rework how I handle the Kindle Fire. [import]uid: 16734 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 76554[/import]

I’ve opened a case with Amazon about this issue, and I’ll report back on this thread with the response I get. [import]uid: 70847 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 76555[/import]

Yesterday I received a new mail from Amazon, after about 10 days from the acceptance of my application for Android.

“We have recently evaluated your app’s compatibility with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet. This added test process is here to verify that every app available for download on Kindle Fire will provide our customers with a high-quality experience on their devices. Your existing submission of Solar Eclipses has been found to be incompatible with Kindle Fire due to the following:
Solar Eclipses does not successfully launch on Kindle Fire when tested for compatibility. Upon launch, the app may produce instances of force closing, crashing, or an unrecoverable black screen.”

At the address
https://developer.amazon.com/help/faq.html#KindleFire
more information about compatibility.

They also say:
"To ensure your app is compatible with Kindle Fire, specify “supports-screen android:largeScreens=“true” " in your manifest file.”

Now I try to change manifest file (by Apk_manager), use only the features of their list and resubmit the application.

I will tell you later.

Bye
Piero

Today I received this:

"We have recently evaluated your app’s compatibility with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet. This added test process is here to verify that every app available for download on Kindle Fire will provide our customers with a high-quality experience on their devices. Your existing submission of TimeMachine has been found to be incompatible with Kindle Fire due to the following:

TimeMachine does not successfully launch on Kindle Fire when tested for compatibility. Upon launch, the app may produce instances of force closing, crashing, or an unrecoverable black screen.

Please review these issues and update your submission to address the incompatibility. You may find it helpful to review the Kindle Fire FAQ in the Amazon Appstore Developer Portal."

My application it is not very complicate.
At this point I do not know what to do…
It would be necessary to have a Kindle in my hands.

bye
Piero

P.S. The same application has been accepted for Android.

I got this today.

"Spoon and the Moon does not successfully launch on Kindle Fire when tested for
compatibility. Upon launch, the application displays the error message “Please
build this app for Amazon/Kindle. This build is not supported on this device.”

I guess we have to make 2 versions for now??? [import]uid: 108498 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79332[/import]

@squarerhino

You only have to make 1 app for Amazon. They don’t have separate app submission for Kindle Fire.

You built using the Build As… Amazon/Kindle option, correct?

I’m guessing you don’t have a Kindle to test on. If you want I can test you APK file on my Kindle and tell you what the debug output shows the error is. [import]uid: 16734 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79334[/import]

@ squarerhino
When you built your binary, did you use the “Build->Amazon/Kindle” option (no keyboard shortcut), or did your just build for Android (Shift-Command-B)?

I built with the “Amazon/Kindle” option and submitted my app in late december for approval. It got approved for their app store, however I’m still waiting to hear from them regarding the approval for the Kindle Fire. [import]uid: 70847 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79335[/import]

So I really just need to rebuild using “Build->Amazon/Kindle” and it will be good for the first phase of Android testing and then the Kindle testing too.

I will resubmit with the new build and report back. [import]uid: 108498 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79336[/import]

Yes, that’s all you should have to do. [import]uid: 16734 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79338[/import]

@KenRogoway

Could you do me a favor? Over the last week I’ve seen a sudden increase in sales on the Amazon App Store, and I’m suspecting that *maybe* it could be my game Big Fat Goalie that has been approved for the Kindle Fire. I haven’t received any email from Amazon though, and the reporting doesn’t show the device type that the users have installed the app on.

Could you search the App Store on your Kindle Fire for my game just to see if it pops up on the device?

Many Thanks. [import]uid: 70847 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79441[/import]

Just searched for you with my Kindle Fire. Big Fat Goalie version 1.3 shows up. [import]uid: 108498 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79443[/import]

Not Ken, but,

I recently submitted an App to Amazon and got the message that it was approved but that it would be reviewed separately for the Fire. A few weeks later sales picked up and a friend of mine reported that they indeed purchased it for, and through, their Fire. So it seems that unless there is an issue, Amazon DOESN’T notify you when they activate the app for the Fire. [import]uid: 64596 topic_id: 19759 reply_id: 79444[/import]

Thanks @squarerhino and @shane.

That’s what I was suspecting.
Great to know that I finally got an app approved for the Fire
