Kung Fu Quest : The Jade Tower Is Now @ Alpha Stage!

Hi guys, I’m glad to say that our game Kung Fu Quest is now at alpha stage and if everything goes well it should be out some times mid April (crossing finger).

I’ve created a facebook page for it for start : https://www.facebook.com/KungFuQuestTheJadeTower and posted the first gameplay video on youtube here :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=oDhxxneey10

Kung Fu Quest was made based on the idea that I haven’t found any cool fighting/beat em up game that doesn’t have nasty virtual gamepad or cool graphics. Some of the technical features are this game will run smooth at 60 fps and all the animation will be smooth since it’s all tweened animations using the engine we made that allow us to import animation from flash. The game has 37 levels, 7 different themes and 8 nasty boss fight.

Feel free to come and visit the facebook page and like it or drop a message or two. I’ll update the page constantly with more and more infos and release announcement later on.

Now I’m trying to create a trailer for the game. Since I’m an indie developer I’m trying to get inputs from Corona community on how to make a cool trailer. Been googling for quite awhile now and haven’t really found anything worthy to read on this subject. So anyone maybe have some good insights on what makes a compelling trailer?

Another questions to the experienced developer, if my app is a universal app that works on both 4:3 and 3:2 or even widescreen. What screen ratio should I use to make my trailer? Youtube is 4:3 right?

Thank you guys.

Looks great.  Did you use Spine or Spriter for the 2D animation?

Thanks,
No, we made the engine and tools ourselves so we can tweak the performance to the max. The video is captured at 30 fps since youtube only allows 30fps playback so it doesn’t do justice.

For those of you who have fb account feel free to drop by the FB page

This looks awesome!

looks like Kung Fu Master - an old arcade and C64 game

Thanks guys,

Yes The classic Kung Fu / Spartan in the good old NES is always my favorite game. But this one doesn’t play like it, with combos, upgrades and customization!

Hey @Yanuar,  I just wrote an article about making great trailers:  https://www.videopixie.com/make-a-game-trailer   hope it can be helpful,  If you or others have more tips on making great trailers I’d love to hear it.

Also you may want to try videopixie to make your trailer.  I started videopixie to make video production easier and more affordable.  You upload the gameplay and pro edtiors turn it into an engaging trailer.   One of the first game trailers made on videopixie is a Corona game (Go Ninja by Hiptic).  And we are currently offering $50 in free editing to the Corona community: http://www.videopixie.com/?coupon=CORONA_50_FREE  . Feel free to try it out or ping me:  thomas at videopixie com

Good luck with your trailer !!!  Keep us posted.

thanks

Whoa this looks sweet. One of the best corona games I’ve seen. How many people worked on this and how long did it take? Are you using the physics engine for this?

Very cool @yanuar. I was a huge fan of the 80’s arcade stand-up “Kung Fu Master”. This looks like that x100: in animation quality, varied fighting moves, etc. Best of luck in the marketplace!

Brent

@Czepta :Thanks, you should really see the final product where the animation plays at 60fps (even on 1st gen ipad). The youtube video can only have 30 fps playback :frowning:

We’re a team of 4 people and we don’t use the physics engine, we get to put all the animations because we use tweened animation from Flash. This would allow us to have the smoothest animation without have to rely on huge spritesheets.

We’re really impressed with the graphical prowess of Corona to let this happen, so kudos to them

@Brent : Woot woot! A corona staff noticed my game  Sweet… Thanks Brent, after some painful wait period, the game is coming on Aug 1st.

Be sure to check it out and I’ll make sure I enter it on the showcase for a chance to get that AOTW badge

this looks really cool!

Thanks Dingo,

The date has been selected, it’ll be released on Aug 1st… hope to see you soon

ps : I can see that you’re a Enterprise user, how’s it working out for you?
