Launch screens

Hello! I am searching around, reading the tuturials, and not finding what I want :frowning:
I need to know what files I need to create as launch screen for a iPad, iPhone, Android and Kindle Fire game (yes, all 4, also the game supports iPad Retina if that matters).

What are the filenames and resolutions? [import]uid: 142895 topic_id: 29914 reply_id: 329914[/import]

Hey Ricardo, thank you so much! That’s exactly the info I was looking for. One question if I may:

Are you sure the iphone 4 and 4S (retina iphone) need 640 X 480? and not 640X960? The reason I ask is because I use 640 (w) X960 (h) and even so I can see my landing screen but it does not seems to be the right orientation on the screen if I flip the phone around.

The Default-Landscape.png (1024X768) I am using on the ipad2 seems to work great even if I rotate the device around. My game works on landscape mode.

I am wondering if by using 640X960 I am not making mistake and that is why the iphone 4 do not present the correct orientation of the landing page if i rotate the phone 180 degree?

Any suggestions?

Thanks again for the info above. Very important ones to keep around.

@stan8 ,
Just to let you know, iPhones/iPods that do not have a retina display only support the “Default.png” file. This file must be 320 pixels wide and 480 pixels high, regardless if your app is landscape or not. That is, it only supports a portrait orientation.

iPhones with retina displays only support “Default@2x.png”. It must be 640 pixels wide and 960 pixels high, regardless if your app is landscape or not.

iPads only support the following files:

  • Default-Portrait.png

  • Default-PortraitUpsideDown.png

  • Default-Landscape.png

  • Default-LandscapeLeft.png

  • Default-LandscapeRight.png

Portait iPad images must be 768x1024 pixels and landscape images must be 1024x768. These images should be made upright. You don’t have to support the Left, Right, or UpsideDown images if you do not want to and just use the Portrait and Landscape images instead, which I believe are displayed upright relative to the orientation of your app.

I hope this helps!

Hey @Mo , glad to help.

ha ha!! I did it again. You may as well change your name to Ricardo my friend…resistance is futile:)

By the way any idea why starting the app with the iphone4 home button to the left shows the correct orientation of the landing page (a simple background image with LOADING text) BUT starting the iphone home button on the right show the loading page with the wrong orientation (the text LOADING is flipped vertically)?

Are you ios apps loading page correctly no matter how you hold your phone when starting the app? I do not have problem with the ipad2 but cannot figure out on the iphone. It is not a huge deal but it is annoying since the game itself change orientation correctly as soon as it start. But not the landing page on the iphone!..I may end up just removing the word LOADING from the background image:)

I welcome anybody’s suggestions and thank you in advance.

Hey @Mo ,

No worry about my real name…if for you am Ricardo so let it be! lol
So, regarding your question about the “splashscreen/landpage position”, well, thats interest at least. Look, after your question, I went over a couple of games installed in my iPhone 4 and what I notice is that all the games (eg: Pitfall, Field runners 2, etc) do start with the splash screen at right position ONLY if am holding my iPhone with the "home" button on the right! If I close the game totally and open up it again holding my iPhone with the "Home" button facing the left side, well, all the apps do start with the splash screen flipped vertically! No other way! I find out right now by your question and even as you said that only AFTER showing the splash screen the displays does show up the images at the correct position (and so I understand it as only after the app itself (code) is running (after splash screen that is loaded by the "system" automatically and not from our code/app) that the iDevice does update/"correct" its display accordingly to the users holding position. So, what I take from this all is that there is not so much we can do about it right now. :S
Let me know what you find/think about it as well. Maybe I can be wrong.

Thank you my friend. I thought I was getting crazy! Like I said, not a huge problem. It is also interesting to note that the ipad works great on both orientation…

I will continue looking but if anybody else has any other suggestions please feel free to share. Until then i will continue working on my to do list.

Thanks a lot Rodrigo!

Glad to help!

PS: And yes, on iPad it does run as expected anyway. I`m seeing the same as you (between iPhone/iPod & iPad)

No information on Android? Or it does not use launch screens at all on Corona? [import]uid: 142895 topic_id: 29914 reply_id: 120887[/import]

Android OS doesn’t bring up the launched app’s splash screen automatically. If you want a splash screen, you’d have to show it yourself in the beginning of the program, but that still leaves the gap for the app loading that the screen is black.
